Double Dish

This is a 2 part entry so it might be a little long. But feel free to read 1 or both, whatever you prefer :) . The 2 restaurants featured in this entry include: Bonefish Grill & Cypriana Greek Restaurant. Both were found here in Orlando but Bonefish can be found throughout the U.S.

We'll start with Bonefish:
One of the friends I went with is a huge fan of Bonefish and definitely recommends it. So off we went to the Sandlake & Dr. Phillips location. We made a reservation ahead of time to be sure we got a table and would not have to wait long. We were seated right away by a very friendly hostess and I noticed that the restaurant was not crowded so we probably did not have to make a reservation anyways, but better safe than sorry.

We started off with Mussels Josephine for the 3 of us (it was also one friend's first time trying Mussels and they were a great sport about it). They were absolutely delicious even though a couple Mussels weren't open and my one friend said that those were not good and should not be eaten. In my opinion, I think it is the cook's responsibility to remove these Mussels prior for their customer's safety. But other than that, I would definitely recommend the Mussels and order them again, the portion was also very generous for 3 people.

For my entree I ordered Giant Sea Scallops & Shrimp. You can choose between 4 different sauces to go with your fish & I chose the Chimichurri sauce. It came with mixed vegetables and whipped Garlic Potatoes.

I ate every last bite and the portion was a perfect size for me because I was definitely full at the end of the meal. I would definitely order the entree again but switch to a different sauce. Also, I am not a big lima beans fan but I thought they were very tasty.

Overall, I am very impress with Bonefish. The food was delightful and moderately priced for a seafood restaurant. After splitting the appetizer 3 ways and my meal my bill came out to approximately $20 not including tip & no drink, just water. The best part was definitely the server who was constantly smiling, knowledgeable about the menu, and efficient with refilling our beverages and checking up on us without being overbearing. I would definitely recommend Bonefish and hope you will have a great experience like me for your next visit.

The next restaurant is Cypriana Greek Restaurant located in Casselberry:

I went with 3 friends and we ordered an array of food. We started off with a variety of appetizers including: Fried calamari, Saganaki, & a sample platter that contained: Spanakopita, Skordalia, Olives & Feta, and Fresh Pita. The Saganaki was a little too lemony but it was the servers first time handling it & didn't really know what to do with the flambe, hopefully they will learn and become better with it. Another thing I did not like about the Saganaki was the cheese was a little to thin and crispy. But on the pita and dipped in the olive oil it was still appetizing. The Spanakopita was definitely not cooked properly and had an interesting taste that I couldn't quite put my finger on, I would NOT recommend the Spanakopita or order it again. The Skordalia was very good and even though it is made mainly with potatoes it tasted like hummus and was very delicious. If there wasn't 4 of us I probably could have sat there all night and ate it with the warm pita. Not much to say about the feta & the olives but I definitely wish there was more feta on the plate.

Next, for the entrees:
When I ordered my entree I did not realize how full I would be but still had a few bites of my meal. I ordered a Gyro with French Fries. The Gyro was huge! With lots of Tzatziki sauce, which I loved! The French Fries were very crispy and deliciously seasoned. The food was hot and came out at the perfect time after the starters.

Overall, I don't think I would recommend Cypriana but wouldn't complain or not go if my friends wanted to go back. Service was personal and friendly, which was nice since it was such a small restaurant. The pricing was not bad and you definitely got a good portion size and taste for the price.

If you have the chance check these restaurants out and form your own opinion because every experience will be unique to the customer.

Elephant Bar & Restaurant

Last night I went out to dinner with some friends and we wanted to try something new. We kept hearing people talk about this restaurant called "Elephant Bar & Restaurant" & decided to check it out. We went to dinner pretty late and were able to get seated right away. Going in, we didn't know much about the restaurant so it definitely took us a littler longer to order off of the menu. We started the night off with a bottle of white wine to split between the 3 of us. Their menu offers a wide range of moderately priced choices. Anyone could definitely find something worth their while; whether it be one of their many sandwich, fish, or asian inspired options. After ruling out a few choices I decided I was in the mood for something spicy; and settled on their Kung Pao Chicken for $10.95 [you can substitute shrimp for the chicken if you prefer, for an extra charge]. It also comes with the option of brown or white rice, and I chose brown.

We didn't have to wait long for the food which is always nice especially since we were starving! However after enjoying our food for a few minutes an employee came by with my friend's salad, even though she had already received the salad. But the server did play it cool, however I have seen this happen in previous restaurant experiences & they usually just leave the extra meal at the table, but this server took the extra meal somewhere else. I guess someone got a free meal...

Sorry, I don't have a photo of my meal but don't worry every item comes with its own picture on the menu. When the food first arrived I noticed the portion was a little small but I did however bring home some of it for leftovers. (Note: I LOVE leftovers!) When I first started eating it I didn't notice the heat level I was looking for but definitely saw the heat level in the dish. The heat was coming from the Chile de arbol, more on this later. Okay, its later...I don't know what I was thinking but I took one of those chiles and ate the whole thing! It did not take long for that heat level to kick in because in seconds I was in tears, yes I cried over a chile. After a few minutes, and a few sips of water later I was able to enjoy my food again and made sure to not make that idiotic mistake again. In the end, it was a good first experience with good food and exceptionally good service. I would definitely return and hope to soon so I can try something else because I have a list of things I would like to try.

Leave comments if you have ever been to Elephant Bar because I want to hear what you think as well.

Welcome!

This is my very first post & I just wanted to share info about myself & this blog.

ABOUT ME:

My name is Nicole and I am majoring in Event Management at University of Central Florida's Rosen College of Hospitality Management. I am graduating in December of 2010 & very excited for the future. I love to eat! And I especially enjoy cooking, even though I may not always be the best at it. But hey, it is all about trial & error, right? Right! I also love to travel and hope to combine my two loves: food & travel into a career. I also enjoy writing and sharing my opinion, so that is where this blog idea came from!

ABOUT THE BLOG:

I was speaking with a frolleague (friend/colleague) and we were talking about food and what we want to do after we graduate. After some talking he finally convinced me to start my blog, so thank you. I have wanted to create this blog for a while and what better time to start then NOW! I am not a picky eater & am willing to try anything. I also have a high tolerance for spicy food (more stories on this later...) so am up for the challenge if spicy food comes my way. This blog is going to cover all different topics: from restaurants I visit, whether it is quick service or fine dining, to recipes I try, whether it is my own or a family or friend's recipe. I will let you know what I order, how it tasted, the service, & everything in between.

I hope you follow along & post your opinions about ANYTHING. So sit back, relax, and enjoy! Because I am not your mom and I am not going to tell you to stop playing with your food!
